There has been a great deal of tradition in the Fire Service in the United States that has been the driving force behind the design and development of the protective gear and apparatus we are using. I feel it is adequate in most areas but have always felt a need for innovative changes with respect to eye protection.
As most Firefighters in the United States are aware, there has been much debate on the topic of eye protection and different departments have adopted varying regulations requiring the use of goggles rather than the face shields because of ever growing incidents of eye injuries to Firefighters.
These new Rosenbauer helmets have two state of the art face shields that retract into the helmet body as do most European helmet designs.
