STATE TROOPERS ARE WHY I BECAME A FIREMAN INSTEAD

My friends are shocked at what is seen here. I am no fan of misuse of power and authority but my answer is always the same. The following is my response to a Connecticut friend of mine who sent me the video link.…

COMMAND-UNDERSTAND..SUPPORT..AND RESPECT IT

louisburg1.JPG

I post this blog to bring more attention to an article released on FireRescue 1 about the decision made by an Arizona Fire Chief who could not respond to a call very near his station because it was out of the jurisdictional parameter of his command.…

FIRE AND ICE

For me as I look back on the calls I responded to, this is in my opinion the most challenging condition to deal with-below freezing temperatures.

I feel most of you members have been here so I post this for the newcomers and web surfers in the hope they can come to understand that their local Fire Department has greater challenges than they might have guessed. It is not all "polishing trucks and drinking beer".…

HOLLYWOOD vs. REALITY FOR FIREFIGHTERS

I have not seen this flick (and will not) but I feel I may understand the negative criticism I read about it at the store website where it was being offered for sale.

It is a fact that movie goers wish to be entertained so the subject matter must do that, even at the expense of the topic being covered fading out of sight.

I do feel that a movie need be made that could shed some light on the dangers of our…

WOMEN IN THE MILITARY... WHAT ARE YOUR THOUGHTS?

P1

What do you feel will be the biggest obstacle for women if they are to be in combat units? Should they be in all female units to be deployed separately or should they be simply offered only the highly skilled responsibilities such as pilots, armored division engineers etc.

545 vs 300 MILLION-If the tax code is unfair, it's because they want it unfair

A very interesting column. COMPLETELY NEUTRAL.

Be sure to Read the Poem at the end..

Charley Reese's final column for the Orlando Sentinel... He has been a journalist for 49 years. He is retiring and this is HIS LAST COLUMN.

Be sure to read the Tax List at the end.

This is about as clear and easy to understand as it can be. The article below is completely neutral, neither anti-republican or democrat.…

STATION 13 OTTAWA CITY CREW-PROFESSIONAL-PROUD-DEDICATED

My day going out on calls with the crew from station 13 afforded me the opportunity to ride along with the team on the pumper for half of a day and was given a chance to see how a city crew operates on calls.

Chief John deHooge set it all up for me and as all of you who know him might expect, he made it fun for me. First off he assured me that I would be afforded a ride to the station, that is, he would send someone to pick me up at the Ottawa Sheridan so I would not need to spend my…

caner

Peter Czulinski never thought cancer would deliver the fatal blow.

Like all firefighters, he thought he might die — if he thought about death at all — in a roaring blaze, working side by side with his colleagues, fighting to save lives.

"Near the end, when we had some quiet moments together, he kept saying the same thing: 'I can't believe I am going down this way,'" says Mark Daniels, a close friend and colleague and acting captain at Toronto fire station 332.

PROBLEMS

What is happening with fire  training today? I notice nearly every week we lose a firefighter on scene, is it communication? training? Safety on fire ground ?  Are instructors really qualified? are Building codes re: roof structures being violated?  Wall collapsing on firefighters ?

I think we should all step back and examine the education of recruits it saddens me to see these souls lost, in an age where the standard of equipment is the best and more and more tools are invented for…

THREE PAGE'S....., WHERE ARE THE FIREFIGHTERS?

I am old and no longer useful as a Firefighter but my interest in supporting the service has not diminished so I have several radios and scanners to keep me aware of what is going on.

My blood was pumping hard and my temper was being tested when I listened from start to ugly finish the events that unfolded…

TO WITHIN ONE TEN-THOUSANDTHS OF AN INCH... BEYOND THE PULL OF GRAVITY

Human beings are the only life form who have had the privilege to see our earthly home from beyond the the pull of gravity. It is because we are blessed with the opposable thumb and the ability to dream of what could be.

The fact that we can make precision tools so we are able to make precision…

A POLITICIAN TO BE PROUD OF

This post is to pay respect to Jack Layton, a politician who truly cared and hoped to make a better world. No Canadian politician has ever borne physical suffering as publicly as Jack Layton bore his, which is one reason for the very public mourning at his death. “Mr. Layton did not spring fully formed into…
