To all who see this photo and know what it is I thank you for your service.
May the ghosts of our victims that visit us as we dream forgive us for our trespass and may the "all mighty" unseen one deliver us from the evil of our past.
This one is mine,... I wear it on my Firefighter dress uniform on the back of the collar to show respect to all the good Servicemen who did not "go home". I have my issues so I wear it this way because it is the last thing I wish for others to know about me and to symbolize the weight of my past deeds that I still carry on my back.
Those who have not known war will never understand us but I wish they would at least forgive us and volunteer their services to a local VA hospital. Just go, ask for the ones who have no family or friends,.. you are desperately needed, "Adopt a Veteran". The ribbons on your autos are nice but if anyone really cares your courage to support those of us who have been thrown away in the VA hospitals would mean the world to those crippled, disfigured and forgotten veterans. Those of you who could and would be so loving and giving to visit them on the holidays would put the light back into thier tired and lonely hearts.
Be warned,... do not eat before you go the first time as some of these people are really hard to look at. If this shocks you understand that they are healed now and so you may come away with more understanding of why those of us who were there and saw them as the events of their condition were just unfolding are so angry and volatile. We were so young and unprepared,.. no one should have to see or do what we saw and did.
There are still some veterans in VA hospitals across our great land from the World War II era just waiting to die,.. they have no friends or family left that are willing to look at them anymore. All they have left are their gee-dunk, bronze star, General George and me and I can only do just so much.
