Public Education Matters

Enhancing Fire Safety Education and Prevention in Your Community

Issue 167, April 6, 2018

Dear Fire Chief, Public Educator, Fire Prevention Officer:

Resources Available from the

“Making Your Smoke & Carbon Monoxide Alarm Program Work” Training Session

The Public Safety Education section of the Office of the Fire Marshal and Emergency Management (OFMEM) would like to thank everyone who attended the “Making Your Smoke & Carbon Monoxide Alarm Program Work” Training Session on March 27, 2018.

Approximately 150 representatives from fire departments across the province attended. Initial feedback from the participant surveys indicates that it was a very informative session. A special thank you to all fire department representatives who presented their smoke and CO alarm programs at the session and made it so successful.

Presentations from the session have been posted on a Google drive and can be downloaded.  Fire departments that are interested in sharing information about their smoke and CO alarm programs (e.g. SOGs, waiver forms, public education materials, etc.) with other fire departments are encouraged to do so. Having access to real life examples helps to allow fire departments to determine best practices for their communities.   If you are interested in uploading a resource please send to ofm.pubed@ontario.ca and we will upload to the drive.
