Oh yes, what was I thinking! Of course this is what every hunter or self appointed neighborhood watch zealot must have, or at least something like it, to take down those crafty deer or protect themselves and their families from whatever it is out there that the state, county and local police organizations can not handle.
These are the weapons that are available to anyone who desires one that the current administration is attempting to pass legislation to make illegal for just anyone to have.
Surely the founders of our constitution had the foresight to in-vision these types of weapons, as well as our nations current "threats" and our current population, when they put to print an amendment that in part stated, "the right of the people to keep and bear Arms"! Right?
Now any rational "thinking" human being would be able to understand the fact that our current social structure,( national threats and evolution of our "militia", from "every able bodied citizen" during a period when our nations citizen population was small and was under threat of overthrow by entities from Europe as well as from the native aboriginals that were becoming uncomfortable with the abuse the new Americans saw fit to afford to them), has relieved the majority of our population of the responsibility of mustering to arms when a need arises to defend our communities from threats. But still so many, able bodied or not, citizens of our land feel they need,... in addition to the "well regulated militia" afforded to us all,.. all manner of fire arms!
I have had the privilege of conversing first hand with many citizens who thrill when given the opportunity to go to a firing range and discharge their favorite personal protection weapon of choice... Ad infinitum! I am impressed with the feeling of security most of these individuals have because, they say, they have a weapon. Further communication about all things related and many things not, leads me to believe most of these individuals would behave under fire the same as they would if you gave them a fire truck and their homes were burning. At best they would make a big mess of things as they attempted to save their homes and surrounding structures because they are ill equipped,.. emotionally, physically and technically, to perform tasks that are better left to trained professionals.
Everyone I spoke to felt they could handle any aggressor who confronted them. When I would ask if they ever actually had another thinking, well armed and determined individual or group shoot at them before, all said no.
I am a coward so I speak from a cowards point of view when I state that I was terrified when I met my first "firefight". Other people trying to kill me! I was extremely grateful for my training and for my fellow Servicemen who had my back. This experience led me to wonder how well these untrained but seemingly fearless Rambo types at the gun shows and target ranges would make out on their own, defending their homes from whatever they are imagining is out there trying to get them, if there was return fire. For me to witness these individuals standing tall and throwing walls of lead at a paper target I could only imagine... how tall would they stand if the targets shot back?
Personally, because I am such a "wuss", I am grateful to have the government regulated "militia" (Police and National Guard) to have my back, front and both sides, so when the worst possible scenario comes about I can take refuge in my home and just read about it in the news paper. I will be curious to see, when that day comes, how many of the "Rambo" types leap from their sofas to confront the enemy or just hide like me trusting their fate to the one's we paid to do it instead.
I own a weapon for the sole purpose of dispatching livestock when the need should arise. I am confident that when "hell freeze's over" and it is my turn to respond to a deadly threat here in America I will go to my safe room, weapon in tow. I Fritz the coward will shut myself in and face the only access door, dial 911 and wait for the cavalry to come and save my sorry ass. But if they do not show in time.... I pity the first fool who shows his face in that door. I am a coward so I will be scared. Ask any Sheriff, State Trooper or psychiatrist what is more dangerous. A trained angry aggressor or an animal that is scared.
Right to bear arms, good luck with that!
