WHAT IS VERY SOUGHT AFTER,... AT THE CENTER OF THE WORLD ECONOMY,... TOOK 65 MILLION YEARS TO MAKE AND IS BEING WASTED BECAUSE OF SHIPPING ACCIDENTS?

Yes, well that is a no-brainer... oil! But what is hard to understand is why so much of this precious cargo is being lost to accidents during shipping. Follow this link and join in the discussion... or just have a good laugh : ANOTHER CANADIAN OIL SPILL

My guess is most likely it is the infrastructure of the railroad that is the culprit. The trains are becoming more heavy each generation so the old rails and crossings are unable to handle the additional loads. Much like the highways after the maximum gross weight for trucks was raised and the warehouse taxes became too onerous for business so they put their inventory on wheels which led to millions more trucks hitting the roads. The additional weight and rise in frequency of truck traffic led to myriad roadway and bridge failures.

The average train engine weighs in at around 94 tons. The crude oil tankers, loaded, weigh in at around 115 tons. So it is understandable that this will cause failures of this industries infrastructure which can be witnessed by any citizen who watches the neverending maintenance and repairs taking place on every portion of this system across the country. There are 'spotter' units that run the rails constantly looking for problems but even this does not guarantee there will be no failures.

So many serious consequences stem from this spillage. The most serious, is the contamination of drinking water supplies.

The water supply is damaged from the accidents because some of the product [ benzine] is a carcinogen that makes it unsafe to drink. See link : http://america.aljazeera.com/articles/2015/1/21/oil-pipeline-burst....
This is the biggest reason behind the unwillingness of citizen action groups in Nebraska to allow the pipeline to be built so close to one of the worlds biggest sources of drinking water on the planet. When this is gone humanity will be forced to address an already serious problem with running out of drinking water, one of the three most needed components to sustain life on earth.
Air.. water... food, these are the primary basic needs for almost every living thing.
No air, life expectancy .... a few minutes.
No water, life expectancy.... about three days.
No food, life expectancy.... about three weeks.
You "need" air water and food... everything else you simply "want"!
Try to remember this when you vote or support actions that diminish the worlds natural resources.
